Today we started with an introduction to our second research project. The topics we chose from were: the places we are going to in China, Chinatowns in the US, international Chinatowns, or to give a presentation to the middle schoolers on how Chinese classes are taught in our high school. It is important to know the places we are going to visit in our China A-Term and how Chinese culture has been implemented in the world. I chose to be part of the presentation given to middle schoolers. This is the only group presentation. The other presentations were individual ones. My group decided to talk about some of the misconceptions of the Chinese language, some basic terminology in Chinese, and the China J and A-Term.
After this, we went to a kung fu workshop, which everyone was very excited to attend. The kung fu master told us how he learned kung fu and how kung fu is not just about strength but it is also about the mind and having the right mindset. Then we had to get warmed up so we did some stretches so that we would not hurt our bodies when we started the exercises. Once we finished stretching we did some kung fu related exercises. After this, we went to do some kicking and punching on a punching bag. My favorite part of the whole experience is when we got to kick the training targets.
After the kung fu workshop, we went to a restaurant in Chinatown called FuFu's. Each of us ordered a different plate and we ate family-style. This restaurant had Chinese-American food. My favorite food was sweet and sour chicken and fried rice. Tomorrow some people will present their presenations on Chinatowns and the places we are going to in China. Once we finish our presentation we will watch the movie "After Shock." Once we finish watching the movie we will get introduced to our next and final project, which is whether China is going to Fail or Rule.
